Multiple Teams · WJ Hires New Basketball Coach


StuCoach Hartenstein will begin his first season as the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at West Jefferson High School.  Coach Hartenstein comes to West Jefferson after spending three seasons as the varsity assistant at Olentangy Orange High School from 2011-2014, and two seasons at Northmont High School from 2009-2011.  In both stints at Orange and Northmont, he was part of two district finalist runs in 2010 and 2013 and one league championship in 2012 at Oletnangy Orange High School.  Primary responsibilities at both Northmont at Orange included scouting, designing offensive systems, and skill development.

Outside of coaching high school basketball, Coach Hartenstein also works various skill development camps at colleges and universities throughout Ohio.  He has been appointed as a lead instructor at Wittenberg University’s Point Guard, Big Man, and Shooting Camp where he has worked the last three summers.  Coach Hartenstein has also made contributions to the coaching community in articles pertaining to installing the pick and roll offense in the high school game as well as installing the packline defensive system.  He is not only active in the camp circuit but also an active participant in coaching clinics with Nike, CoachingU Live, and the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association.

Coach Hartenstein is a 2009 graduate of Wittenberg University with degrees in History and Education.  At West Jefferson, Coach Hartenstein is employed as a special education teacher and resides in Hilliard, Ohio.
